Changing Perspectives

13.09.2012 – 30.11.2012

Since 1997 the European Central Bank (ECB) has been collecting art with a focus on contemporary pieces from Europe. The basis for the collection is the exhibition series “Contemporary art from the Member States of the EU”, which showcase the art scenes of the respective countries and are organised in close cooperation with the national central banks.

The collection currently comprises about 300 works from 19 countries. Well-established works of art with international reputation are represented as well as works by young artists who are at the beginning of their careers. A special focus here lies in the attempt to identify characteristic streams, developments and themes which define the art scene in a country and move the artists.

Under the motto “Changing Perspectives”, the current exhibition, with works from 44 artists, showcases a cross-section of the results of 15 years of art collecting, thereby also reviewing the history of the ECB’s cultural commitment under its guiding principle “unity in diversity”.
