Namur has invited Jan Fabre for a posthumous encounter with Félicien Rops: an unprecedented tour along museums and sites in the to open air to let you discover the daring and inspiring worlds of these two Belgian artists. The imaginary dialogue between Rops and Fabre will unveil, question and challenge time.

“The entire city will be activated. The exhibition itinerary will take you from the Musée Félicien Rops to the Maison de la Culture and the Church of Saint-Loup, where Charles Baudelaire suffered a fatal stroke (as described by Bernard-Henri Lévy in his widely acclaimed novel Les derniers jours de Charles Baudelaire, Grasset, 1988). Along the route, scattered over the city, there will be life-size bronze statues by Fabre, including The Man Who Measures the Clouds (1998) in the Citadel, and The Man Who Conducts the Stars (2015) on the balcony of the Théâtre Royal. In this theatre, two productions by Troubleyn/Jan Fabre will be staged: Preparatio Mortis (2007-2010) and The Power of Theatrical Madness (2012, re-enactment creation 1984).”

“The fact that this happens in Namur is not without importance. That the theatre of this resurrection should be the very site where Baudelaire began his own way of the cross, that this tribute should be paid to him in the shadow of the church where he ceased to suffer and began to die, that this revenge, in a word, should be granted to him in a city to which his visit was ultimately fatal, is not a matter of indifference.”
